Olive is always unlucky: in her career, in love, in…well, everything. Her identical twin sister Ami, on the other hand, is probably the luckiest person in the world. Her meet-cute with her fiancé is something out of a romantic comedy (gag) and she’s managed to finance her entire wedding by winning a series of Internet contests (double gag). Worst of all, she’s forcing Olive to spend the day with her sworn enemy, Ethan, who just happens to be the best man.

Olive braces herself to get through 24 hours of wedding hell before she can return to her comfortable, unlucky life. But when the entire wedding party gets food poisoning from eating bad shellfish, the only people who aren’t affected are Olive and Ethan. And now there’s an all-expenses-paid honeymoon in Hawaii up for grabs.

Putting their mutual hatred aside for the sake of a free vacation, Olive and Ethan head for paradise, determined to avoid each other at all costs. But when Olive runs into her future boss, the little white lie she tells him is suddenly at risk to become a whole lot bigger. She and Ethan now have to pretend to be loving newlyweds, and her luck seems worse than ever. But the weird thing is that she doesn’t mind playing pretend. In fact, she feels kind of… lucky.

all the fucking stars.

It’s incredibly rare for me to review a book that I’m not obligated to review. I either have to absolutely love it or hate it a lot. Well I freaking LOVED this book. Here are a few things I loved:

  • harry potter insults
  • sexual tension is real
  • sass, oh the sass
  • hilarious moments that will have you cackling
  • the setting
  • fast paced and unputdownable
  • some sexy steamy moments
  • douchebags who get what they deserve

The Unhoneymooners is by far one of the best books I’ve read so far this year. I started and finished this in one day, I honestly couldn’t put it down. I was hooked from the first page. It’s absolutely hilarious. If you want a book that will make you laugh out loud while reading, pick this up. There were so many moments this book had me cackling and cracking up.

This is the perfect summer read, its light-hearted, fun, comical and has a tropical setting (hello, Hawaii) that’s perfect for summer. its also HATE TO LOVE/ENEMIES TO LOVERS, the best trope out there. Looking for some sass? Olives the sassiest. Harry potter puns and insults? Olives on the ball. Embarrassingly hilarious moments? Yup, they’re in here. So many good things are in this book. Read it.

Lets talk about Olive and Ethan. I loved these two, so much. Olive’s a twin that’s from a large Latino family , she’s loud, sassy, loves food and seems to have the WORST luck ever. She’s also super relatable to me, from her love of science to having horrible luck, we have a lot in common and I loved it. Ethan comes off as a total douchebag and wants absolutely nothing to do with Olive, hes so bad at communicating but he’s sarcastic and quick with the insults. The dynamic these two have is my favourite, they are both so sassy with each other, want to avoid each other like the plague and don’t ever call each other by their actual names. The sexual tension is REAL.

There’s so much more to the story than being just a fun  rom-com but I don’t want to give anything away. But trust me, this is the perfect summer read. Once I finished it, I wanted to immediately reread it, that rarely happens to me.
