Friday Favourites: First book in a Series

meme hosted by Something of the Book

Hello friends! Here is a new weekly meme I plan on participating in, I’ts hosted by my friend Kibby! All info can be found on her blog which is linked above. You have no idea how happy I am to finally have a meme that’s not on a Tuesday or Wednesday!

The first topic is favourite first books in a series and I’ve narrowed it down to four.

Caraval by Stephanie Garber, The Cruel Prince by Holly Black, Nevernight by Jay Kristoff and Skyward by Brandon Sanderson. These were all amazing reads for me, five stars, such a great way to kick off a series!

Caraval: This was such a fantastic, gripping and immersive world for me, I put this book off for so long, it had sat on my shelf for over a year before I finally read it. The story itself was dark, mysterious, dangerous and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough.

The Cruel Prince: Dark Fae, two of my favourite things dark stories with fae, it was made for me! I’m a huge fan of Holly Black so when I heard she was coming out with a new fae book, I had to read it. This didn’t disappoint me and I know it’s not everyone’s favourite but I love the dangerous fae Holly writes, the fantastical worlds she creates and this had cameos from her other YA fae books!

Nevernight: This is very dark, stabby, lots of death and blood so right up my alley. Jay Kristoff is my favourite author and Mia Corvere the MC is my all time favourite female literary character. Mia is a bitch, she’s determined, she has a shadow cat and she likes to kill people. I flew through this book and immediately read Godsgrave after, highly recommend it igf you like DARK stories ad you’re not squeamish.

Skyward: New Fave. I read this recently and holy crap its phenomenal. This has everything I love about sci-fi, its set in space in the future, there are spacecrafts, aliens, a different planet, there’s a super sarcastic talking ship and a really determined MC who says things like “I will drink the blood of my enemies” or something along those lines.

Caraval (Caraval, #1)  The Cruel Prince (The Folk of the Air, #1)

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1)  Skyward

  1. aaaaaah, I want to read Skyward SO BAD! I’m reading it with a buddy group so I have to wait until we finish our current book. From everything I’ve heard I know I’m going to LOVE it! Thanks for participating in Friday Favorites 🙂
